The Clark County Green Schools Program (www.clarkgreenschools.org) works with all local public and private schools in their sustainability efforts. We encourage environmental leadership and give students tools to implement change in their schools. To boost waste reduction education and awareness in schools, we provide assistance and offer recycling containers, as needed. We also assist with food waste composting and recycling in cafeterias, offering education, containers and tables. Lastly, Clark County Green Schools has a partnership with EarthGen, a statewide environmental certification program, to help schools certify with their program. Each year, we collaborate with EarthGen to provide teacher trainings and student summits. The member serving in this position will support schools by assisting with program development of wasted food prevention and rescue, providing school on-site maintenance of all existing sort tables, and assisting the Green Schools team with waste reduction lessons and activities. Clark County Green Schools is committed to serving our diverse school community, and this member will utilize an equity lens to provide culturally-sensitive programming. This is an AmeriCorps National Service Position. This position is contingent on funding and open until filled.

Member Duties: The member will evaluate how the school is recycling and composting, serve as an educator, interact with students and provide tools for change, and update any signage or necessary pieces of equipment. This will require the member to conduct daily visits to schools during lunchtime to assess waste sort tables, provide outreach to schools not yet sorting and composting, serve with the Green Schools team to assist in follow-up education and support, and deliver recycling containers and signage to schools. The member will also create outreach materials for the website including blog posts and web page content.
