The Clark County Green Business Program (www.clarkgreenbiz.com) provides support and resources to businesses taking steps to evaluate their business practices and minimize their environmental footprint. We offer businesses a certification program to recognize efforts related to environmental and social sustainability. The certification program includes stormwater, hazardous materials, water and wastewater, energy, and waste and recycling, and we also assess community and employee engagement. The Green Business program also aims to assist businesses in finding ways to eliminate waste and keep material out of the landfill. More than 30% of the waste thrown away by businesses in Clark County is food scraps, which presents a huge opportunity to inform the business community about our local food waste composting program and about strategies to reduce food waste. The member in this position will support businesses by assisting in their efforts to develop green team projects and increase environmental sustainability through waste reduction, recycling and composting programs. Interviews will be conducted in June and July. This is an AmeriCorps National Service position. Position is contingent on funding and open until filled.

Member Duties: The member will be responsible for leading green business workshops focused on waste reduction, recycling, and food waste composting. This will require researching workshop topics, recruiting speakers, and coordinating event logistics. While visiting and communicating with business representatives, the member will valuate waste practices and support improvements by delivering recycling containers and signage and making recommendations. This project will assist in efforts to inform food establishments about food waste prevention practices, composting options, and recycling. The member will create outreach materials for the website, including blog posts and web page content, social media campaigns and community events. Additional responsibilities include providing support for an array of environmental outreach events.
