Schedule:            Flexible 32-40 hours/week Monday-Friday days, with some evenings & weekends

Starting Salary: $47,000-$62,000 salary + Full Benefits, bilingual English/Spanish pay differential available

Compensation Package:

Annual starting salary of $47,000-$62,000. Bilingual English/Spanish pay differential available. Current benefits based on

1.0 FTE include:

Job Summary:

The Education Manager is responsible for the design and execution of ReBuilding Center’s Education program, and works with the Senior Manager of Programs and Partnerships to maximize program relevance for low-income and BIPOC homeowners and renters. Every year, RBC hosts over 150 carpentry, plumbing, electrical, and creative reuse classes in order to empower homeowners and renters to affordably preserve their homes. The education program is evolving—we will soon be teaching off-site classes using our new electric van, offering free classes to low-income homeowners, and expanding our youth programming—and requires a creative and visionary leader to guide its development. This exempt position reports to the Programs and Partnerships Manager and supervises a Lead Instructor and a team of Instructors.

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:

  • In partnership with the Senior Manager of Programs and Partnerships and Lead Instructor, develop and deliver trade skills and home repair programming that meets the needs of targeted populations and increases the reach and impact of our services

  • In partnership with the Senior Manager of Programs and Partnerships, develop annual goals that support the continuous improvement, financial stability, and increased impact of education programming

  • Hire, train, coach, and evaluate shop coordinator and instructional staff

  • Refine existing curricula and develop, test, and evaluate new classes and workshops

  • Deliver hands-on instruction of curriculum to adults and youth in up to two classes per week, with a focus on positive learning and skill development; step in to teach classes when instructors are absent

  • Coordinate with the Lead Instructor and the Volunteer Coordinator to ensure a reliable inventory of Education Shop materials and support, perform or coordinate basic equipment maintenance and space improvements, prepare materials for classes, and complete safety checklists

  • Create and maintain SOPs and safety protocols for the shop. Ensure that program policies and procedures conform to internal and external rules and regulations as well as best safety practices.

  • Set class schedules that meet identified community needs and generate budgeted revenue each month; develop and test strategies to address revenue shortfalls

  • Produce content for a monthly education e-newsletter

  • Provide education content to Community Relations Coordinator to fuel integration of education programming into the organization’s social media and digital strategy.

Required Job Qualifications, Skills & Attributes:

  • Supervisory experience

  • Experience in program delivery and design

  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience (including safe operation of related power tools and hand tools) in one or more of the following: hands-on carpentry (rough or finish), plumbing, electrical, or home repair and improvement

  • Experience and passion for teaching, or comparable role engaging individuals and groups in a customer/learner- centered environment.

  • Effective and culturally responsive communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to represent the ReBuilding Center to multiple and diverse internal and external stakeholders (coworkers, volunteers, general public, etc.).

  • Strong customer service, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills; demonstrated ability to resolve conflict and solve problems effectively and creatively.

  • Commitment to modeling and institutionalizing practices and program strategies that strengthen racial equity.

  • Demonstrated passion for our mission to build community resilience through reuse, to benefit our community and the environment.

  • Ability to take initiative and manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment.

  • Available to work occasional evenings and weekends as needed for program and other related events.

  • Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite and volunteer/customer database programs.
